Magnetic flowmeters

N. M. Turchin

Abstract
The results or an experimental study of the effect of fringing on the “sensitivity'' of a flowmeter are presented. In the experiments NaK alloy flowed through stainless-steel and copper tubes, the Reynolds number being varied from 950 to 7.2·105 and the Hartmann number from 56 to 609. There was no observable effect due to fringe currents or to the defamation of the velocity profile when the liquid enters the magnetic field. An improved relation was obtained allowing for the heating of a magnetic system based on magnico alloy permanent magnets. Figs. 5, Refs 11.
