Abstract
This paper gives the results of visual observation of the trough flow of mercury in a running magnetic field. It is established that the flow has a complex character. It consists of transient, reverse, and vortical motions, each of which has its own special characteristics clearly visible with visual observation. The boundaries between the separate motions are quite clearly marked. The observations were made at room temperature; there was no noticeable heating up of the mercury by the magnetos.
