Experimental investigation of the electromagnetic forces and the motion of a liquid in a cylinder in a travelling magnetic field

Abstract
The results of an experimental investigation of the electromagnetic forces which act on a cylinder in a traveling magnetic field are presented. The rotation of an electrically conducting liquid in a cylindrical vessel placed in the traveling magnetic field of a plane inductor is investigated. The existence of a critical Reynolds number above which rotational instability occurs is established.
