Entrainment of a ferromagnetic suspension by a traveling magnetic field

O. A. Glazov

Abstract
We study the possibility of setting into motion a ferromagnetic suspension by a traveling magnetic field in linear induction machines. We consider the case of small concentrations of single-domain spherical particles. An expression is found for the electrodynamic pressure head under the assumption that the motion of the ferromagnetic suspension takes place as if it were a quasisolid. Numerical estimates indicate that the magnitude of the pressure head can be made rather large.
