An approximate boundary layer calculation of a rotating closed MHD flow

A. R. Muizhnieks - A. T. Yakovich

Abstract
An approximate calculation of a laminar boundary layer near the end wall of the region of a rotating closed MHD flow has been done. It has been shown that the centrifugal pressure difference due to rotation is p12 ∼ (IB)4/3, where I is the radially supplied current and B the apllied magnetic field. Comparison of calculation and experimental data for turbulent flows has shown that a viscous layer near the end walls plays a decisive role in the case of turbulent flows, too. Figs 2, refs 8.
