Abstract
The results of an experimental study of the hydrauilc losses in the liquid metal (InGaSn alloy) flow in a rectangular duct with high aspect ratio in a coplanar and oblique magnetic field are presented. The flow in the uniform and nonuniform (entrance region) magnetic fields and linearization of the flow in a strong nonuniform field have been investigated. The strong dependence of the pressure losses on the angle of the magnetic field orientation has been revealed. It has been shown that i) the Hartmann number corresponding to the transition to the linear flow regime increases when the magnetic field orientation changes from coplanar to transverse; ii) Ha ∼ N2/3 on the boundary curve separating inertial and inertialess flow regimes.
