Electromagnetic side dam in the casting of strip with the belt/roll process

Abstract
The electromagnetic side dam for the casting of metal strip with the belt/roll process has been designed using a mathematical model. The electromagnetic field was computed with the mutual induction method via vector potential. Optimization algorithms were applied to determine the inductor configuration and to calculate the final shape of the melt. Experiments with Wood’s metal have been conducted demonstrating that the designed inductor functioned as predicted. Figs. 8, refs. 7.
