Abstract
The magnetized Sm-Co powder coated with polyethylene is proposed to solve the problem of sealing and damping changeable structure elements in a cryogenic environment. Coating of the powder is considered. The pressure drops of static and moving seals at normal and liquid nitrogen temperatures are investigated. There is no entrainment of the powder while the seal moves translationally. Investigating the damping ability of the powder in magnetic fields shows that the cohesion between its particles corresponds to friction materials. Tables 1, Figs 6, Refs 8.
