Abstract
The effects of high magnetic fields on the morphology change of primary Sb phase in a Mn-95.2 wt.\%Sb hypereutectic alloy have been investigated. The Mn-95.2 wt.\%Sb alloy specimens were solidified under various magnetic field conditions. Thermal analysis was carried out to characterize the nucleation temperature, i.e., the undercooling of primary Sb. It is shown that the primary Sb experienced a structural nonfaceted-faceted-nonfaceted evolution with the increasing magnetic flux density. The application of high magnetic fields decreased undercooling needed for the nucleation of primary Sb. Figs 3, Refs 12.
