Modelling of electromagnetic actions in sponge titanium production

Abstract
A mathematical model of heat and mass transfer in a magnesium melt placed in the reactor for titanium production is suggested. The heat release in the titanium recovery exothermic reaction is taken into account for boundary condition. The model describes both free thermal and forced convections generated by a travelling magnetic field. Results of numeric experiments are given, and it is shown that electromagnetic stirring allows to enhance titanium production efficiency. Figs 5, Refs 18.
