Abstract
This article discusses the hydrodynamics and heat transfer in {\sl downward} and {\sl upward} liquid metal flow in a rectangular channel with the aspect ratio 3/1 subject to a coplanar magnetic field. This particular configuration is inspired by heat exchange channels design in the tokamak reactor blanket module. Experiments were carried out in a mercury magnetohydrodynamic setup. Probe measuring technique was applied. Average temperature profiles, temperature fluctuation intensity and wall temperature are obtained in the channel cross-section distanced from the beginning of the heating section but still in the magnetic field uniform area.
