Bi-stability of the deformation of a body with a magnetizable elastomer in a magnetic field

Abstract
Deformations of a body with a magnetizable elastomer in an applied magnetic field are studied theoretically. Two situations are considered: a deformation of a thin body in an applied non-uniform magnetic field and a deformation of a spherical body in an applied uniform magnetic field. The possibility of existence of more than one equilibrium form of the body in the applied magnetic field has been confirmed. Good agreement of theoretical and known experimental results is obtained.
