Abstract
An investigation into the effects of Lorentz force on a conducting fluid within a rectangular vessel has been carried out. A shallow water model has been adapted to account for viscosity and electromagnetic terms. This model substantiates the algorithm which develops the simulation of the fluid's motion, thus aiming to resolve MHD model processes in aluminium reduction cells. Through employment of the Lax-Wendroff scheme, the initial numerical results have been found to be in good agreement with earlier experimental results. Figs 10, Refs 11.
