Abstract
The problem of melt surface cleaning from oxide scab during induction melting is investigated by numerical simulation. A mathematical model is presented and the results of validation are discussed. Different possibilities of surface cleaning based on varying the AMF frequency and distribution are considered for several geometries of induction furnaces. Dependences of reversal and full cleaning times are obtained and analyzed; mechanisms of the generation of surface cleaning flows for each case are discussed and flow patterns are given. A most efficient way of surface cleaning is found. Tables 2, Figs 8, Refs 12.
