Experimental investigation of an MHD-pump model with inclined partitions

Abstract
A new model of the MHD pump with a straight channel is proposed. The channel of the model pump is embraced by Π-shaped ferromagnetic cores positioned in a staggered manner. Inside the channel, there are partitions which are inclined at a sharp angle to the longitudinal axis of the channel and adjacent to one of its narrow side walls. With such an arrangment, the channel space is not fully blocked, which creates favourable conditions for complete discharge of the molten metal from the channel. The model pump operates through the interaction of an electric current in the channel with its self magnetic field. The pressure drop - flow rate characteritic is given for different electric current values. Figs 3, Refs 2.
