Abstract
Structures and characteristics of vortex flows generated in liqud metal by external electromagnetic forces are studied based on the model of a single-layer system. The influence of the position of the region of electromagnetic field action on the pattern of the resulting flow was investigated. The boundary between the quasistationary and oscillatory flow modes was determined. It is found that partial overlapping of the electromagnetic action region of the metal layer with the inductor poles enhances the intensity of the arising vortices. Tables 1, Figs 6, Refs 10.
